Minor Retablos
The Minor Retablo on the Gospel side is dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ. The central niche is occupied by the Resurrected Christ, robed in gold and white, with one hand pointing upward and the other holding a banner. On the left side is the niche of Saint Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers. The image is depicted holding a book and the banner of their Order. On the right side is the image of Saint Francis of Assisi, founder of the Franciscan Order. The image is depicted holding a cross and the banner of their Order. On top of the retablo is an arch pediment painted with an allegory of the triumph of the three theological virtues, faith, hope, and love.
The Minor Retablo on the Epistle Side is dedicated to Saint Joseph, chaste spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Patron of the Universal Church. The image is depicted holding a staff of lily and a model of the St. Peter's Basilica. The left side niche is dedicated to Saint Claire of Assisi, founder of the Order of the Poor Clares. The image is depicted holding a monstrance and a staff. The right-side niche is dedicated to Saint Therese of Lisieux, a Carmelite nun, and Doctor of the Church. The image is depicted holding a cross and roses. A painting depicting the allegory of the triumph of Justice and Chastity, and angels carrying titles found in the Litany of Saint Joseph.
